Voices from the Field: Shayne Piskule on using Track3D at Hensel Phelps

Back in 2024, VDC Engineer Shayne Piskule joined Hensel Phelps, taking on coordination responsibilities at the Nashville International Airport (BNA).

We recently caught up with Shayne to hear how his team is using Track3D to simplify progress monitoring and strengthen coordination across trades.

“At first, I was skeptical…”

“When I first learned about Track3D, I was very skeptical,” Shayne says. “A software that could provide accurate progress metrics overlaid back onto the drawing set? All we had to do was name the assets, provide the drawings, and take 360-degree photos. It sounded too easy.”

But simplicity turned out to be Track3D’s strength.

“We were already taking 360 photos, and it would have been silly not to try Track3D out. The transition from our previous methods to Track3D was seamless. After the first month of consistently capturing 360 progress videos on the enabling scope of Concourse A, I was able to easily provide weekly updates on the progress of all trades in a way that was easy and palatable for everyone.”

A True Partnership in Innovation

From the start, Track3D’s team worked side-by-side with the Hensel Phelps team, listening, iterating, and delivering new features shaped by on-site feedback.

“I can’t stress enough how incredible Track3D’s ongoing support has been. The team has been continuously receptive to feedback, consistently striving to improve, and transparent through all steps of their process,” Shayne says.

As someone deeply involved in project coordination and model workflows, Shayne saw an opportunity to help shape the tool further.

“Personally, I was able to partner with the Track3D implementation team and provide suggestions on how they can best utilize project scheduling information. After a few short months, they showcased functional beta features identical to the proof-of-concept I had shared. I’m very excited about the scheduling features set to release later this year!

Taking Reality Intelligence to the Next Level

At BNA, the Hensel Phelps team is exploring how Track3D’s AI can extend beyond standard asset tracking. The team is testing whether the technology can recognize specialized wall finishes, including the airport’s large-format tiles and signature green glass that define its visual identity.

“These features are complex to install and maintain,” Shayne explains. “We’re testing how far we can push the AI’s recognition capabilities to automatically track them.”

Momentum in the Field

Track3D’s impact at BNA did not stay confined to a single project for long. Its simplicity and clarity quickly gained traction across Hensel Phelps teams.

More Hensel Phelps project teams want to try Track3D on their jobsites as soon as possible. It’s made it easy for our field folks to walk back into the office and show management exactly where installations stand. No extra time required for scaling drawings, finding a picture of the area they stopped installing for the day, or figuring out how to create a chart in Excel. Everything’s centralized and simple for the entire project team to benefit from.”

The Hensel Phelps team continues to offer thoughtful insights that help strengthen how Track3D is applied in the field. With BNA Concourse A shaping up to be a project to watch in 2026, we’re lucky to have a front-row seat and even luckier to collaborate with dedicated team members like Shayne PiskuleJason De Melfi, and Ashley Hedges, who are driving innovation on the ground for Hensel Phelps.

Just like the team at Hensel Phelps, your crew can walk in and instantly see where progress stands with Track3D. Experience the difference on your project.
