What is Photogrammetry?
Photogrammetry derives precise measurements and 3D models from photographs. By analysing many overlapping images of the same scene captured from different positions, software reconstructs the geometry, scale, and texture of the environment — turning ordinary photos into accurate, measurable 3D data.
How It Works
Capture overlapping images → feature matching across photos → camera positions solved via Structure from Motion (SfM) → a dense point cloud is generated → the cloud is meshed and textured into a 3D model or orthophoto. Ground control points georeference the result to real-world coordinates.

Photogrammetry vs. LiDAR
Photogrammetry derives 3D geometry from imagery and excels at colour, texture, and lower cost. LiDAR actively measures distance with laser pulses and performs better in low light or vegetated areas. Many projects combine both for complete, accurate reality capture.
