Definition
Structure from Motion, or SfM, is a technique that reconstructs 3D shapes from a series of overlapping 2D photographs taken from different positions. As the camera moves around a scene, SfM works out both the 3D structure of the scene and where each photo was taken.
It is a core method behind modern photogrammetry, turning ordinary images into detailed 3D data. The name reflects how it recovers structure from the motion of the camera between shots.

How It Works
